Teach English words with Jazz music

Subject: Teach English words with Jazz music

Purpose: I want to propose a technique that combines Whole Brain Learning with Jazz Chants to teach certain words in English to students.

Details: First the students watch the video link about Jazz Chants. Then I choose to combine these two methodologies because children are more interested in things that have a tune and melody. Whole Brain Learning method will enhance and help the children remember all the words repeated at the jazz chant. I intend to use simple everyday language words. There can be many topics that can be taught but for the purpose of this assignment, I chose a vocabulary chant about “Family”. Then I come up with 10 words related with family: “Family, Mother, Father, Son, Daughter, Sister, Brother, Uncle, Aunt, Cousin” Then if I categorize these words, these are the categories based on sound:
One sound: Son
Two sounds: Mother, Father, Daughter, Uncle, Cousin
Three sounds: Family, Brother
Then I create a jazz chants with combining a rhythm with one-two-three chants. This lesson can start with Attention Getter. I say “Class!” and the students respond “Yes!” then l say “Class – Sing!” then the students say “Yes – Sing!” and then I proceed with the jazz chant I choose for the day. After the chant, we proceed to Brain Engager and I say “Mirror Words” and the students respond “Mirror Words”. Then I repeat the words I use in the jazz chant; the students repeat them after me and mirror my gestures.
